This is the stage in the investigation where all information gathered throughout the whole investigation is put into a case file in preparation for a presentation in court. The case file will contain all the information on the suspect, for example previous convictions. The officer in charge of the case will also write an overview of the case. The information contained in the file will be items such as witness statements, results of any analysis and a general list of evidence with photos. This is to be used against the suspect of the crime to get them sent to prison. When the evidence is being presented in court the prosecution must always present first followed by the defence who will present their case. Once both cases have been presented the Judge and the Jury make a decision on the outcome of the case.
In Guy Paul's case there was not enough evidence to go ahead with a case against Guy Paul however they still went ahead with the case. This shows they were focused on Guy Paul being the kidnapper. The case went ahead with not enough evidence against Guy Paul who had a strong defence however due to the crime that had been committed the Judge and the Jury wrongly convicted Guy Paul to life in prison as they believed he did it. The case should never have went ahead as there wasn't enough evidence. The case should have been acquitted as there was not enough evidence, this would have been beneficial for both parties as Guy Paul wouldn't have been wrongly convicted which is the major error in this case, and beneficial for the the prosecution as they wouldn't have sent an innocent man to jail.
