Defence

The defence in a case that has been brought to court is to defend the person suspected of committing a crime. The defence is build up of defence lawyers these are involved in the writing of reports and presentation of evidence in court. The defence roles and responsibilities are to argue against the prosecution, to provide a defence for the suspect(s), the defence team will attempt to gather evidence which goes against the prosecution. Each of the roles of the responsibility of the defence are carried out with the goal of getting the suspect found innocent.

In the case of Christine Jessop Guy Paul's defence had very little to work with in the first two trials but so did the Prosecution, the only evidence that the defence was able to gather which was solid evidence was the times of the Jessops getting home and Guy Paul arriving home however once the detectives changed the statements they had no defence up until the final court hearing in which they had the DNA evidence.

Like the prosecution the defence will only take part in cases that go to court. In every case the role of the defence will be to defend the accused, of whatever crime they have been accused with. The arguments for the defendant will differ depending on the type of crime they have been accused of. However the Defence’s role and responsibilities will always is to get the suspect found to be innocent of committing the crime.
